Welcome to EMCC Belgium’s new structure

A collective intelligence model for a stronger, higher-performing, and more dynamic organisation

Why we are evolving

At EMCC Belgium, we have always been passionate about mentoring, coaching and supervision, and the tremendous human potential they hold. But as our community has grown, we have shared one observation:

We need to evolve the way we operate as an organisation to reflect the values we promote.

Until now, a small group of volunteer Board members—the Administrative Body (AB)—managed most aspects of EMCC Belgium. Despite significant progress, the work has become increasingly complex. And with limited resources, we have reached our limits—in terms of time, capacity, and collective creativity.

What we are building: A system based on collective intelligence

We have decided to adopt a collective intelligence model.

What does this mean? Instead of centralising all decisions and actions within the AB, we are now distributing leadership, responsibility and innovation among all our members. We invite you, our members, to become more involved through a new Circle-based structure.

What are Circles?

Circles are small teams, driven by a specific purpose, that focus on an area of activity or EMCC Belgium’s mission. Each Circle has a clear mandate, autonomy within its area, and a direct link to the AB.

The Circles we have created

Each Circle is supported by a double-link system:

  • A first link (from the AB)
  • A second link (a volunteer member currently being recruited)

Here are the Circles we have launched and their current AB first links:

Circle What is this Circle about?
Membership Welcome new members, strengthen the community, and support their onboarding.
Communication This Circle aims to keep members informed, inspired and connected through newsletters, website updates, an events calendar, and sharing opportunities offered by EMCC Global. Its goal is to make EMCC Belgium a dynamic and enriching community.
Accreditation Support members on their accreditation journey and build links with EMCC Global.
Events Organise high-quality, relevant events across Belgium, in Dutch, English and French.
Collective intelligence Ensure our organisation understands and applies participatory governance and collective wisdom in how we operate and develop, and therefore that the Circles function smoothly and autonomously.
Solidarity Coaching Provide support to those who need it most through social-impact initiatives.
Visibility (Outreach) Strengthen EMCC Belgium’s presence with institutions, partners and the public.
IT and digital Manage the behind-the-scenes technology—tools, platforms and members’ digital experience.
Supervision Create spaces for supervisors to connect, learn and jointly advance their practice, and raise awareness of the importance of supervision and how to become a supervisor.

📌 Second links are currently being identified. If you would like to volunteer for one of these roles, please see the information below!

How the double-link system works

Each Circle has:

👣 A first link

A current AB member who represents the organisation within the Circle. This person helps define the agenda and initial priorities, and serves as the point of contact with the AB.

👥 A second link

A volunteer member (not part of the AB) who takes the operational leadership of the Circle—organising meetings, recruiting members and driving actions forward.

This double-link model ensures two-way communication:

  • The AB stays in touch with what is happening in each Circle
  • The Circle stays connected to EMCC Belgium’s overall vision and priorities

🧭 Think of it like a relay: one foot in the AB, one foot in the Circle—so that energy flows in both directions.

A real-life example

Let us take the example of the Accreditation Circle:

  • First link: Julie Vander Meulen (Treasurer, AB Member)
  • Second link: Daniela Terrile (Volunteer member)

Together, they define the Circle’s mission. Daniela then takes the initiative to build the team, organise meetings and launch the work, while Julie ensures the Circle is aligned with the overall structure and provides coordination support.

What’s next?

We are moving forward with determination, transparency and co-creation. Here is where we are:

✅ Step 1: Circle structure and first links — ✔️ COMPLETED

The AB has finalised the current Circle structure and appointed the First Links internally.

🧭 Step 2: Identifying second links — IN PROGRESS

We are now inviting EMCC Belgium members to take on the role of Second link—the operational lead for each Circle.

  • 📣 If you are curious, enthusiastic, or feel called to lead…
  • 👉Contact us Please send your expression of interest to info@emccbelgium.org.

✍️ Step 3: General call for participation — COMING SOON

If you are not ready to lead but would still like to get involved, that is wonderful!
You will soon receive a form where you can indicate which Circle(s) you would like to joinDepending on your skills, interests and availability, you will be contacted by the Circle’s Second Link.

We ask all members to honour the commitment they made when joining EMCC Belgium—15 hours of volunteering per year—in the way that suits you best.

What this means for our culture

This is more than a new structure; it is a paradigm shift in how we work together.

We are committed to:
