Coach Supervision
Supervisors, or coaches of coaches, provide coaches with a space for exchange and reflection, necessary to progress with the people they support and to guarantee quality interventions.
From the very first steps as a coach, it is (especially) necessary to be accompanied in this supervision process.
For an EMCC Belgium accredited coach, regular supervision is an integral part of the accreditation process.
The duration, frequency, location, contract, and framework may vary depending on the type of coaching.
EMCC Belgium offers supervision sessions, which are exclusively reserved for our member subscribers and primarily for members providing solidarity coaching. These supervisions take place once a month in Brussels, are free of charge, and limited to 10 people.
What is a supervisor?
Who can claim to have the qualifications to be a supervisor? Coaching is a fairly recent field of activity and the field of coach supervision is still little explored. A supervisor according to EMCC Belgium standards:
- Is specifically trained in coaching
- Has a minimum of 5 years' experience as a coach and a minimum of 750 hours of coaching delivered
- Distinguishes between the supervision of coaches and therapists
- Respects the EMCC code of ethics
EMCC is currently working on accreditation for supervisors.
There are also publications and reflections on supervision: "Fundamental Themes in Clinical Supervision" by John R. Cutcliffe, Tony Butterworth, Brigid Proctor published by Routledge and "Group Supervision: A Guide to Creative Practice" by Brigid Proctor published by SAGE.
